HYBE has added a new girl group to the K-pop scene. TUIDE has officially made its debut with seven members and a sound that blends R&B, soul and electronic music.
A new generation is beginning to make its mark within the HYBE universe. On August 24, TUIDE officially debuted with seven members: Seohee, Seoyeon, Elena, Jia, Saki, Seah and Yi Hani.
The group’s name comes from the expression “tune the tide,” an idea that reflects the concept behind the beginning of their musical journey.
During a showcase held at YES24 Hall in Seoul, the members introduced their first EP, titled “TUNE & PLAY,” while also sharing their expectations and talking about the journey that led them to their official debut.
One of the elements that aims to set TUIDE apart is its musical identity. Their sound has been described as “soultronic,” combining elements of soul and electronic music with influences from genres such as R&B, house and UK garage.
Their debut EP features five tracks: “ABD,” “SUN KISS,” “Echo,” “Flip Flop Girl” and “GRLS.”
The members also bring their own individual stories to the group. Saki, who is from Japan, shared that she had dreamed of debuting in Korea since she was young, while Elena highlighted her love for R&B as one of the influences she hopes to bring to TUIDE’s sound.
Meanwhile, Seoyeon had already attracted attention before the group’s debut for being the younger sister of Jihyo, a member of TWICE.
With their first release now available, TUIDE faces the real challenge ahead: building their own identity and winning over fans in an industry where new artists and groups make their debut every year.
